Important Note: Insulation tape is a composite material, not a safety device that replaces standard protection systems. Electrical and thermal applications directly affect worker safety and equipment lifespan. Before finalizing specs, you should check the Dielectric Breakdown value and temperature range from the latest TDS to ensure they meet project requirements, and have the responsible engineer approve it. Information on this page is a preliminary guideline for material screening, not engineering certification for specific applications.

WHY IT MATTERS

A Single Tape Roll Determines the Quality of the Entire Batch

A roll costs only a few hundred, but if specs don't match, the whole batch is ruined — 3 things that change when using the right tape for the actual job.

01
ZERO RESIDUE

Peel and Done, No Need to Wipe Off Adhesive

Heat-resistant silicone adhesive can be removed immediately after oven baking without leaving a sticky residue on the part, eliminating solvent wiping and rework.

02
ELECTRICAL INSULATION

No Electrical Leakage, No Short Circuits

Insulation films with clear Dielectric Breakdown values in the TDS for every roll. Know exactly how much voltage it can resist before buying, with UL Recognized models available.

03
COST OPTIMIZATION

No Need to Buy the Most Expensive, Just Buy What Fits the Job

Tell us the oven temperature and the time the part stays inside. Our engineering team will indicate whether Kapton or PET is sufficient — many applications have switched to PET to save costs without compromising quality.

*Dielectric strength and UL certification vary by model — check the Technical Data Sheet for each part number.

WHO & WHERE

Who Uses This Tape, and Where?

4 factory groups that order regularly — See which one matches your application.

ELECTRONICS & PCB

Electronics · PCB Factories

Masking Gold Fingers before entering the soldering oven. Leaves contacts clean upon removal, with no adhesive residue to wipe off.

AUTOMOTIVE & EV BATTERY

Automotive · EV Battery

Wrapping battery cells for short-circuit insulation. Withstands accumulated heat from charge-discharge cycles throughout its service life.

MOTOR & TRANSFORMER

Motor · Transformer Factories

Wrapping copper wire between layers (Interlayer Insulation) to prevent cross-layer electrical leakage and withstand heat during continuous motor operation.

PLATING & POWDER COATING

Metal Plating · Industrial Powder Coating

Covering areas that shouldn't be exposed to paint or plating chemicals (Masking). Bakes in the oven and peels off clean with sharp edges, no paint bleeding.

WHERE IT WORKS

3 Work Environments Where Ordinary Tapes Fail

But industrial-grade insulation films can handle it — and here are the material science reasons why.

01 HIGH-THERMAL

High-Heat Processes

Stays in the oven throughout the baking cycle without shrinking or wrinkling. Peels off cleanly once the part cools, leaving no adhesive residue.

Paint Ovens Wave Solder SMT Processes

02 CHEMICAL RESISTANCE

Chemical Exposure Areas

Resists flux and PCB cleaning solvents. Doesn't swell or peel. Adhesive won't melt or leak onto the part during the process.

Found In
Flux PCB Cleaners Plating Chemicals

03 TIGHT ASSEMBLY

Tight Space Assembly

25 Microns Thinnest starting at · 1 mil

Wraps insulation without adding thickness to the part. Fits perfectly into original slots without redesigning.

Found In
Coil Winding Small Parts Assembly Insulation Interlayer

*Starting thickness and chemical resistance vary by model and manufacturer — refer to the Technical Data Sheet for each part number.

BUYER'S GUIDE

Choose the Right Tape Specs in 3 Steps

Answer these 3 questions before ordering — and get it right the first time.

01

Measure the actual maximum temperature the part encounters

Use Peak Temperature, not average — this number immediately determines which family to use.

Up to 130°C

Choose PET Tape

Gets the job done at a better value. No need to overpay for heat resistance you don't need.
Up to 260°C

Must be Polyimide

PET cannot handle this temperature. The film will shrink and wrinkle, ruining the entire batch.
02

Choose the right adhesive for the job

Ask yourself one question — does this tape need to be removed later?

SILICONE

Silicone Adhesive — Must be removed

Most heat-resistant. Leaves no residue when peeled. Ideal for temporary Masking where tape must be removed after the process.
ACRYLIC

Acrylic Adhesive — Permanent

Stronger adhesion, good chemical resistance. Ideal for insulation wrapping where the tape stays permanently on the part.
03

Check the required electrical breakdown voltage

See how many volts the part must withstand, then select a thickness that offers a higher Breakdown Voltage with a safety margin — this value is specified in every model's TDS.

Thicker film   Higher voltage resistance
But thicker means bulkier. If assembly space is limited, you must find the balance between dielectric strength and thickness.

*Temperature range and Breakdown Voltage vary by model and manufacturer — refer to the Technical Data Sheet for each part number.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions on material selection, usage in production processes, and tape processing.

Q. What is the difference between Polyimide Tape and Kapton Tape?
A

Polyimide is the polymer material group known for high-temperature resistance, dimensional stability, and electrical insulation. Kapton® is the commercial trade name for the polyimide film developed by DuPont.

Factories often call them all "Kapton Tape", but actual properties vary based on the film type, adhesive system, thickness, and manufacturer specifications. Always check the Technical Data Sheet of that specific model before use — view our models at MT PI50 Polyimide Tape.

Q. Can PET Tape be used for Powder Coating?
A

Yes, in some cases, but it must be a PET model specifically designed for high-temperature applications because Powder Coating typically bakes at around 180–200°C depending on the paint system, bake time, and process conditions.

Standard PET may not be suitable as the film or adhesive system could deform, degrade, or fail to peel off cleanly.

Material Selection Guide

For high-temperature tasks, consider Polyimide Tape or Green PET High Temperature Tape that specifies temperature ranges matching your actual process.

Q. Can I order custom slit widths to match my parts?
A

Yes, you can specify the width to fit your parts and production process. The available sizes depend on the material type, thickness, tape structure, and machine limitations.

Choosing the exact width helps reduce excess material, eliminates on-site cutting steps, and increases consistency in the production line, especially for high-volume repetitive tasks — see details at Slitting and Die-Cutting Services.

Q. What should I look for when choosing tape for high-temperature applications?
A

Don't just look at the maximum temperature number. You should evaluate it alongside the actual temperature, heat exposure time, surface characteristics, adhesive type, adhesion strength, and removal method after the process.

For applications with strict requirements, we recommend testing the material on actual parts under real production conditions before bulk ordering to assess adhesion, stability, removal, and the risk of adhesive residue.

Q. Can I request samples to test on my production line before placing an actual order?
A

Yes, send your specs or photos of the application via LINE. Our team will help assess everything from temperature and surface type to the appropriate model, and arrange samples for testing under real production conditions before you decide. No MOQ is required for trial applications.
